Sector 8A Storm Water Pumping Station Work Finally Begins After Long-Pending Approvals

A Project Years in the Making

The proposal for this pumping station was approved in June 2019 in the NMMC House, during my tenure as Corporator of Ward 64.
The tender was issued in September 2019, and although the work order was expected soon after, the process was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The official work order was finally released in May 2021, with an initial completion timeline of November 2022.

Multiple Layers of Clearances & Technical Approvals

Because the project falls within sensitive ecological and regulatory zones, several additional permissions were required, including:

  • MCZMA / CRZ approvals
  • Creek Flamingo Sanctuary Eco-Sensitive Zone clearance
  • Bombay High Court directives

The final green signal for construction was given on February 6, 2025, after all compliance steps were fulfilled.
Further, technical approvals were secured from:

  • IIT Mumbai for Hydraulic Design (September 2025)
  • CFD & Model Study clearance (October 2025)

With all regulatory and technical checkpoints completed, groundwork has now officially begun.

Gratitude & Acknowledgement

I personally met NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde sir and expressed my heartfelt gratitude for ensuring this project moved forward.
My sincere thanks to the NMMC Engineering Department, Legal Team, and everyone who played a role in turning this long-pending proposal into reality — a project I have diligently and consistently followed up on as your elected representative.

A special thanks to our Deputy Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde (एकनाथ संभाजी शिंदे) sir for securing the crucial permissions from the concerned authorities. His support has been instrumental in overcoming major hurdles.

This project is not just infrastructure — it is a promise of safer monsoons, improved drainage, and reduced flooding for residents of Vashi. After years of continuous effort, we finally begin constructing a system that will protect our community for decades to come.
